Welcome to Bedford and welcome to the Bedford Neighbors’ Club.
The Bedford Newcomers & Neighbors’ Club is part of the Newcomers’ Club Worldwide and is a social and charitable club. Bedford is the second-fastest growing community in New Hampshire, so there are as many newcomers as there are old-timers in town. Most of us still remember what it was like to be new to the area, so our primary aim is to help newcomers quickly become part of our community and find friends in our town.
Although we are here to help newcomers quickly become part of our community, we welcome established Bedford residents and count several area natives among our membership. While we don’t exclude anyone, our monthly gatherings (really just excuses to get together, meet new people, nibble on munchies, and learn about our town) are usually all-girl events, as are most of our Interest Groups (e.g., Book Club, Ladies’ Night Out, Bowling).
We do, however, have several events aimed at couples (e.g., the Dinner Club and the very popular beer tasting), as well as regular playgroups, activities, and events designed just for the kids. This year, we are also hoping to introduce some family-oriented events to get everyone involved a the same time.
Our secondary (but very important) mission is to give back to this community we all call home. Our most visible contributions come through the Annual Auction; proceeds from this spring event are distributed to various causes around town. But our participation isn’t just a one-time event. Throughout the year, members have initiated drives that have had great participation, last year we held a clean-out-the-coat-closet drive and have also collected cell phones for distribution to victims of domestic abuse. Every Christmas we help out less fortunate families with the Spirit of Giving.
Bedford is home to a variety of interesting, talented, and hardworking families. We all know that finding time to meet people is sometimes a challenge. We hope that the Newcomers & Neighbors Club can provide a vehicle to make your transition easier. And we are here to help if you want to get involved in your community.
