Other Year-round or Seasonal Sports and Activities

Skateboarding

Bedford is home to the Legacy Park skateboard park, right near the Riddle Brook School on New Boston Road. But if your kids (or you) can’t get enough, then you can also try:

  • Keyes Field in Milford: Off Elm Street, just weste of the Oval
  • Merrimack’s SkateBoard Park: across from Mastricola Middle School

Camping
For a low-key, low-stress adventure, you can try Bedford’s own Pulpit Rock trail on New Boston Road. There is a small campsite just off the road — perfect in case of foul weather or finicky young campers. For more camping spots visit the NH Campgrounds site.

Hiking

We’re lucky to be home to several short walking and hiking trails right within the borders of Bedford. For the town’s official information on these sites, visit the Recreation Department’s page. The in-town trails include:

  • Heritage Trail. Take South River Road towards Merrimack. Take a left on Moore’s Crossing Road (look for the brown Heritage Trail sign). Parking is available at the end of Moore’s Crossing Road and the trailhead is marked nearby. The trail is open for walking and mountain biking and runs roughly a mile along the Merrimack to Bedford’s pumping station. The easy walking trail is marked with a few nature and heritage signs, and you may see kayakers putting into the river at the pumping station end.
  • Pulpit Rock Conservation Area. Parking area located off New Boston Road near the Bedford/New Boston line. Two hundred acres of open space, including three miles of walking trails starting at the north end of the parking area and ending at the old mill site at the southern end. The trails are marked with blazes that are occasionally difficult to see. Some branches of the trail are somewhat steep and/or muddy, so wear sturdy shoes.
  • Earl Legacy Park. Off New Boston Road near the corner of Wallace Road, the park includes three miles of trails for walking and mountain biking.
  • Waterfowl Park. Located off Beech Street, the trail consists of a quarter-mile loop in the woods for walking.
  • Gaod’s Trail. Located off Hardy Road, the walking-only trail is a half-mile loop around the wetland area.
  • Joppa Hill Farm. The newly acquired Joppa Hill property includes trails that are currently open to the public. One trail starts just over the border in Amherst. We will be looking for more information on that area.

for more trails and hiking information around NH visit the NH Dept. of Parks and Recreation.

Other places to commune with nature include many NH Audubon sanctuaries including nearby Massebesic Lake, the White Mountains National Forest and the Seacoast.
